WFS O50's Men's West Leagues

The WFS O50’s Men’s West of Scotland Leagues return this Sunday at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility for Round 2, with plenty to play for across all three divisions.

In the Premiership, table-toppers Saint Anthony’s - Greens face another challenging set of fixtures, including key matches against last year’s champions Pollok Utd and current second-placed Carrick WFC With such strong opposition, it could be a defining day at the top of the table.

The Championship is already incredibly tight, with just two points separating the top five teams. It promises to be an exciting round of fixtures as sides look to gain an early advantage and shape the standings heading into the next phase of the season.

In the Conference, it couldn’t be closer — with Allow Athletic and Shotts Bon Accord (1) separated only by alphabetical order after Round 1. All eyes will be on how that battle develops as Round 2 unfolds or will we have new leaders - only time will tell.

We look forward to another fantastic day of walking football and seeing how the leagues take shape by Sunday evening. ⚽

WFS O65's Men's East Leagues

The WFS Men’s Over 65’s East of Scotland Leagues get underway on Friday 17th April at the Oriam National Performance Centre, with the new season bringing further growth to this age category.

This year, we are delighted to welcome new teams into the leagues, including a second Alloa Athletic side, an additional Hearts team, and Dundee East CSC. Their inclusion means we are now able to run two divisions, highlighting the continued development of walking football in the East.

In the Premiership, reigning champions Alloa Athletic begin their title defence with an opening fixture against Oriam 2025.

The Championship looks set to be a highly competitive division, with a strong mix of established and new teams all aiming to make their mark in what promises to be an exciting campaign.

We wish all teams and players the very best for the season ahead and look forward to the start of the O65’s East leagues at Oriam.

Player of the Month (March) - Claire Geoghegan & Jack Gorman

As March comes to an end, we’re proud to once again shine a spotlight on the people who make Walking Football Scotland’s Players of the Month so special—once again in partnership with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

🌟 March Women’s Player of the Month
Claire Geoghegan (51) – Linlithgow Rose CFC

🌟 March Men’s Player of the Month
Jack Gorman (75) – Fife Wanderers

Huge congratulations to Claire & Jack!

Both shared their reflections on what walking football means to them, highlighting the friendships, health benefits and sense of belonging that keep our community moving forward 💙⚽

Why did you get involved in walking football?

Claire: “I used to play football at Primary school but soon moved on to other sports because there were no football clubs for girls at the time. Then, when my daughter started playing football, I became aware of the Linlithgow Rose walking football group. I was watching my daughter flourish at football and felt inspired by her to give it a go.”

Jack: “I started after meeting an old pal who I went to school with and also played football with. He played the WF and loved it. Like many others I was a bit sceptical but went along to New Bayview in sunny Methil and gave it a go. I had suffered a heart attack 6 months previously in 2018 and had a stent fitted but this seemed like a great way to get a bit more exercise and I really enjoyed it. I had another two stents fitted in 2023 but I genuinely feel that the WF helps my general health. I also play a lot of golf but I found I could be more competitive kicking a ball in the right direction rather than hitting one in the wrong”

What positive impact has walking football had on your life?

Claire: “I have tried all sorts to make exercise a regular part of my life but have always struggled to stick with it. Walking football has changed that because training is just great fun. It has also helped me to find some time for myself which can be tricky when work and family life is busy.”

Jack: “The positive side to WF is the exercise, friendship and wellbeing that I feel after a session playing with so many like minded guys who get so much enjoyment from this great sport. We are in our 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and still playing football. There were 30 players at our Glenrothes Monday session recently and all you could hear at the end was lively debate and a lot of laughter.”

What would you say to encourage others to come along?

Claire: “Walking football is for everybody regardless of your age, ability level or starting fitness level. It is welcoming and supportive. It is a great way to get exercise and have fun at the same time. As a bonus you will meet some truly lovely people.”

Jack: “Don't listen to any doubters, ignore the guys who laugh when you tell them you're thinking about playing walking football - it's them who are missing out. I have met so many new friends, and met many great guys at events at Oriam and Toryglen. I feel the health benefits gained from our Monday and Friday sessions are very important to my everyday life and finally, the look on my wife's face last September when I told her I wanted a pair of Predators for my 75th birthday. Priceless!”

WFS O50's Men's West Leagues

The WFS O50’s Men’s West of Scotland Leagues got underway today at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, with a fantastic opening day of competitive walking football across all three divisions.

In the Premiership, Saint Anthony’s – Greens made a superb start, winning all four of their matches to sit top of the table, opening up an early four-point lead.

The Championship sees Motherwell Phoenix lead the way after Round 1, sitting one point clear following their promotion from the Conference last season. It already looks like a highly competitive division, with several teams in close contention.

In the Conference, it couldn’t be any tighter at the top, with Alloa Athletic and Shotts Bon Accord (1) level on everything — with nothing separating them apart from alphabetical order after Round 1.

A big thank you to all players, clubs and referees for contributing to a great start to the O50’s West of Scotland leagues. ⚽👏

WFS O70’s Men’s West Premiership

The WFS Men’s O70’s West Premiership got underway today at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, beginning with a moment of reflection and applause in honour of Jim Fleeting, who sadly passed away last weekend. Jim made a significant contribution to football development across Scotland, and it was a fitting tribute to recognise his impact at the start of the day.

The league continues to grow, with new teams Carrick WFC, Giffnock North, and Whitletts Victoria joining the competition this season, further strengthening the division.

On the pitch, last year’s champions Duncanrig EK picked up where they left off, making a strong start to sit top of the table after Round 1. However, it’s incredibly tight early on, with Giffnock SC Auld Timers level on points and just behind on goal difference.
