WFS O70’s East Premiership - Alloa Athletic Champions!
/Alloa Athletic made it TWO IN A ROW in the WFS O70’s Men’s East of Scotland Premiership following an incredible final-day title showdown against Fife Wanderers at Oriam National Performance Centre today!
With just one point separating the two title contenders heading into the final league day, the stage was set for a thrilling conclusion to the 2026 campaign – and what a finish it turned out to be!
Defending champions Alloa Athletic arrived at Oriam holding the narrowest of advantages, sitting just one point ahead of their closest challengers, Fife Wanderers.
Both sides successfully negotiated their opening fixtures with victories, setting up a mouth-watering head-to-head encounter in their second match of the day, with the destination of the Premiership trophy hanging in the balance.
And what followed was nothing short of remarkable!
With just two minutes remaining, Fife Wanderers were leading 2-1 and looked set to produce a stunning final-day turnaround to take control of the title race.
However, the reigning champions had other ideas!
Scotland internationalist Derek Beveridge took full advantage of some defensive uncertainty in the Fife Wanderers ranks, showing tremendous composure to calmly slot home a dramatic equaliser.
And there was still time for one final twist!
With the momentum firmly behind Alloa, Ralph Gillespie stepped up to become the matchwinner, smashing home the decisive goal to complete an incredible comeback and send his teammates into celebration!
From 2-1 down with two minutes remaining to a 3-2 victory – what a way to retain the Premiership crown!
The result ensured that Alloa Athletic would be celebrating another undefeated league title season, completing a fantastic achievement of back-to-back O70’s East Premiership championships! 🏆🏆
Huge congratulations must also go to Fife Wanderers, who finished as Premiership runners-up following an outstanding season.
Having pushed Alloa Athletic all the way to the final moments of their crucial encounter, the Fifers can be immensely proud of their efforts and the part they played in one of the most dramatic title races of the 2026 WFS league season.
