WFS Recognition Award Presented to Drew Wilson

Walking Football Scotland are proud to present a special Recognition Award to Drew Wilson in acknowledgement of his outstanding dedication to Walking Football in Scotland and his inspirational work supporting people living with Parkinson’s.

Drew has played an integral role in the development and growth of Parkinson’s Walking Football in Scotland over a number of years. His journey began in Glasgow, where he coached Parkinson’s Walking Football sessions through Glasgow Life, helping countless individuals discover the physical, mental and social benefits that the game can provide.

In March 2024, following a new partnership between Walking Football Scotland and Parkinson’s UK, Drew was appointed as WFS Parkinson’s Educator. In this role, he became a driving force behind the expansion of Parkinson’s Walking Football across the country, using his extensive knowledge and experience to support the growth of the programme.

Drawing upon a wealth of experience working with people living with Parkinson’s both on and off the pitch, Drew delivered training and education to coaches, players and volunteers, as well as anyone interested in supporting Parkinson’s Walking Football sessions within their local communities. His passion, enthusiasm and commitment helped ensure that more people across Scotland could access opportunities to participate in the sport and experience its many benefits.

Sadly, due to ill health, Drew was forced to step back from his involvement after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Despite this, his contribution to Walking Football and the Parkinson’s community continues to leave a lasting legacy.

Drew has been a true ambassador for the game, inspiring others through his dedication, compassion and unwavering commitment to improving opportunities for people living with Parkinson’s. Through his efforts, many individuals have not only discovered a love for Walking Football but have also benefited from the positive impact it can have in managing their condition, improving wellbeing and building meaningful social connections.

Presenting the award on behalf of Walking Football Scotland, trustee Matt Ramsay said:

"Drew's contribution to Walking Football in Scotland, particularly within the Parkinson’s community, has been nothing short of exceptional. His knowledge, passion and commitment have helped transform opportunities for people living with Parkinson’s across the country.

"Drew first brought this idea to me and we felt this was something that had so much potential in developing the game for those living with Parkinson’s. Drew has educated, inspired and supported so many individuals and has been a fantastic ambassador for the game. We felt it was only right to recognise Drew’s remarkable achievements and thank him for everything he has done for Walking Football Scotland and for the wider Parkinson’s community."

Everyone at Walking Football Scotland extends their sincere thanks to Drew for his outstanding service and wishes him and his family all the very best.
