/Walking Football Round-Up – Club News!
From tournaments and new team debuts to charity events and community sessions, it has been a busy few weeks, packed with action, inspiration, and growth across the walking football scene in Scotland.
With thanks to all the incredible clubs, players, organisers and supporters who continue to drive the game forward—here's everything you need to know from a brilliant few weeks of walking football!
Lifesaving Skills on Show at Oriam
St John Scotland delivered vital bystander CPR and defibrillator training at the Oriam Sports Performance Centre.
The sessions began with members of the Walking Netball team, followed by training for Oriam Walking Footballers, ensuring participants across both sports had the chance to gain confidence in responding to cardiac emergencies.
There was a fantastic turnout and a real sense of enthusiasm and commitment from participants.
Friendly Fixtures and Good Spirits in Grangemouth
On Tuesday 5th August, Falkirk Foundation Walking Football Club hosted a series of friendly mini-matches against Dunfermline Athletic Walking Football (Pars Foundation) at the Grangemouth Stags Rugby Club’s indoor astro pitch.
The evening was packed with energy, good football, and great camaraderie between both teams. Laughter and smiles were in abundance and after a lively hour of play, the participants enjoyed sharing in refreshments afterwards.
Walking Football Festival Raises Funds and Spirits at Nethcraigs
The community came together in true walking football spirit for Simon McLean’s annual Walking Football Festival at Nethercraigs, Pollok, all in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. A fantastic total of £2,285.37 was raised on the day, showing once again the power of football to unite and make a difference.
Congratulations to tournament winners Saint Anthony’s and Gerihatricks, who impressed on the pitch—but an even bigger cheer goes to Gerihatricks, who selected Drumchapel Utd as the worthy recipients of the Frank McParland Memorial Award, a heartfelt tribute to a much-missed friend of the game.
It was an event marked by a special atmosphere of friendship, respect and shared purpose—a perfect example of what walking football is all about.
Fairfield WF Launch New Women’s-Only Walking Football Session
There’s more great news for the women’s game as Fairfield Walking Football launches an exciting new women’s-only session in the East of the country. Taking place every Sunday from 1–2pm at the Fairfield Astro, the session offers a welcoming, supportive space for women of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game, get active, and have fun.
Whether you're returning to football or trying it for the first time – go on ladies, give it a go!
Shotts Bon Accord Host Charity Walking Football Tournament in Aid of CHSS
It was a fantastic night of football and fundraising as Shotts Bon Accord hosted a walking football tournament in support of our charity partners CHSS (Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland). The event brought together six teams – Motherwell FC CT, Stenhousemuir, North Lanarkshire Council, Shotts BA, and WEBATA, who went on to be crowned tournament winners.
Adding even more value to the evening, staff from CHSS were on hand providing free health checks to players and attendees, promoting wellbeing alongside the football.
A terrific evening of walking football, community spirit, and health awareness – all for a great cause.
