Ayr United Walking Footballers Open New Community Pitch at Somerset Park 🏟️⚽
Players from Ayr United Football Academy’s Walking Football programme were honoured to play a key role in the official opening of the club’s new Community Pitch at Somerset Park.
Two teams, featuring players from the Over 50s and Over 60s squads — many of whom were part of the club’s Algarve Cup-winning sides last year — were among the first to use the new facility, alongside pupils from Newton Primary School.
The walking footballers took part in a friendly match before being joined by members of the first team squad, who enjoyed trying their hand at the slower version of the game.
The pitch was officially opened by SFA President Mike Mulraney, marking an exciting development that will benefit the club, its academy and the wider local community for years to come.

The event, held at Greenfield Academy in Dundee, brought together around 150 players of all ages and abilities, creating a brilliant atmosphere both on and off the pitch. Teams travelled from across the country to take part, with the focus firmly on participation, inclusion and enjoyment.
Organised by Jimmy Sorrie, the festival not only delivered a great day of football but also made a meaningful difference locally, with funds going towards supporting those in need through the food bank.
