It’s been another inspiring period for walking football, with clubs across the country continuing to make a real difference both on and off the pitch. From outstanding fundraising efforts and community initiatives to national recognition in the media, these latest stories highlight the powerful role walking football plays in bringing people together and supporting those in need.

🏆 Walking Football Glasgow Trophy 2026 – A Week to Remember ⚽

After an incredible six days of action, the 2026 Walking Football Glasgow Trophy has come to a close — marking another hugely successful event in the walking football calendar.

Following months of planning and preparation, it was fantastic to see everything come together so seamlessly at Toryglen, as 139 teams and over 1,000 players came together from across Scotland, the UK and Europe. The scale of the event, combined with the organisation, teamwork and commitment shown throughout the week, made it a truly standout occasion.

  • Men’s O65s – Hearts

  • Men’s O60s – Saint Anthony’s

  • Men’s O50s – Forfar Athletic

  • Women’s O60s – Forest Vets

Events of this size simply don’t happen without the incredible efforts of so many people. A sincere thank you goes to all players, clubs, referees, volunteers and Glasgow Life staff whose enthusiasm and professionalism ensured the week was such a success.

This year’s event once again highlighted the strength, growth and community spirit of walking football, and they’re already looking forward to building on this momentum ahead of 2027.

Ayr United Walking Footballers Open New Community Pitch at Somerset Park 🏟️⚽

Players from Ayr United Football Academy’s Walking Football programme were honoured to play a key role in the official opening of the club’s new Community Pitch at Somerset Park.

Two teams, featuring players from the Over 50s and Over 60s squads — many of whom were part of the club’s Algarve Cup-winning sides last year — were among the first to use the new facility, alongside pupils from Newton Primary School.

The walking footballers took part in a friendly match before being joined by members of the first team squad, who enjoyed trying their hand at the slower version of the game.

The pitch was officially opened by SFA President Mike Mulraney, marking an exciting development that will benefit the club, its academy and the wider local community for years to come.

Street Soccer Dundee Spread Easter Cheer with Community Collection 🐣💛

The Street Soccer Dundee walking football group have been busy off the pitch, organising a fantastic Easter egg collection to support local children in the community.

Thanks to the generosity of players and supporters, a wonderful number of Easter eggs were gathered and distributed, helping bring smiles to many young people over the Easter period.

A brilliant example of how walking football groups continue to make a positive difference beyond the game — well done to everyone involved for their kindness and community spirit.

Walking Football Festival Raises £1,100 for Local Food Bank 💙⚽

A fantastic walking football festival has been highlighted in the press after raising an impressive £1,100 for a local food bank, showcasing once again the positive impact of the game within communities.

The event, held at Greenfield Academy in Dundee, brought together around 150 players of all ages and abilities, creating a brilliant atmosphere both on and off the pitch. Teams travelled from across the country to take part, with the focus firmly on participation, inclusion and enjoyment.

Organised by Jimmy Sorrie, the festival not only delivered a great day of football but also made a meaningful difference locally, with funds going towards supporting those in need through the food bank.

Players and organisers alike praised the event for its welcoming spirit, competitive yet friendly matches, and the opportunity to bring people together through the game. New friendships were formed, and the day highlighted just how powerful walking football can be in tackling social isolation while supporting important causes.

A huge well done to everyone involved in organising, participating and contributing — a brilliant example of football making a real difference in the community.

Stonehaven Strollers Raise £1,660 for CHSS at Quiz Night 🧠💙

Stonehaven Strollers Walking Football Club got their fundraising efforts off to a fantastic start this year in support of charity partners Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) by hosting a successful quiz night on Friday 20 March.

The event proved to be a huge success, raising an outstanding £1,660, with a cheque presented at the end of the evening to Anne Magarin from CHSS.

A brilliant effort from everyone involved — from organisers to participants — highlighting once again the generosity and community spirit within walking football.
