Walking Football Scotland were delighted on Saturday to take part in a special Para Football Festival at Oriam, showcasing the various para football disciplines in all their glory.

The day was a true celebration of the game and the mantra of “Football for All”, bringing together players, clubs and communities for a fantastic afternoon of football and inclusion.

A huge thank you goes to Regional League Coordinator David Callaghan for his organisation and support throughout the day, which featured two exciting four-team competitions across the men’s and women’s categories.

In the men’s event, Dundee East CSC emerged victorious after defeating Linlithgow Rose in the final. In the women’s competition, Midlothian Ladies lifted the trophy following their final win over Linlithgow Rose.

We would also like to thank all participating teams for their terrific contribution to the festival: Dundee East CSC, Fife Wanderers, Jeanfield Swifts, Linlithgow Rose CFC, Midlothian Ladies, and Stenhousemuir. Everyone involved showcased walking football in such a positive light and helped make the day such a success.

Finally, a huge well done and thank you to the Para Football CEO Ashley Reid, for her vision and support to WFS, and congratulations on delivering what was a truly fantastic day for inclusive football in Scotland.

Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative - Free Testing

FREE PROSTATE CANCER TESTING

Walking Football Scotland is supporting The Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative, a project offering free PSA tests to 25,000 men in Scotland aged 40–80. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Scotland, and the Initiative aims to improve the detection and treatment pathway. Since launching in March 2026, more than 10,000 men have already been tested.

We are pleased to offer players access to testing during the Walking Football Scotland Scottish Cup & Festival on Saturday 6 June 2026 at Glasgow Green Football Centre, 28 Kings Drive, Glasgow, G40 1HB.

Testing is by appointment only. A simple blood sample will be taken by the medical team (no physical examination required), and appointments last around 15 minutes. Please drink plenty of water before your appointment (at least 2 litres the day before and on the day) and avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours beforehand. We are therefore suggesting that, should you wish to book a test, you book a time before playing your first game. The testing event will be opened to the public for appointments later in the day; therefore, please book your appointment by Tuesday 26 May.

Results will be sent directly and confidentially to you by email within a few days. The company will not have access to your results or personal medical information.

This historic moment for the game has been made possible with the support of the Scottish Football Association and Scottish Para-Football, marking a significant step forward in the development of Walking Football at an international level.

We extend our sincere thanks to our Regional Managers and League Coordinators for their efforts in nominating players from across the country. The strength and depth of nominations made selection an incredibly difficult process, and we are grateful for the commitment shown across all regions.

We are delighted to congratulate the players selected, who will now go on to represent Scotland at the Walking Football Euro Cup, organised by UEFA, taking place on 25th June in Nyon, Switzerland.

This represents a major milestone not only for Walking Football Scotland, but for the continued growth of international Walking Football. We look forward to working closely alongside our national associations and partners across Europe as the game continues to develop at this level.

We encourage everyone across the Walking Football community to join us in congratulating the players selected, who will have the true honour of representing Scotland on the international stage this June.

Invite to International Event Update

Walking Football Scotland (WFS) is delighted to confirm that, following careful and thorough discussions, we have accepted the invitation to participate in the Walking Football Euro Cup in Nyon, Switzerland on 25th June.

This exciting opportunity has been made possible in partnership with the Scottish Football Association and Scottish Para-Football, and we are proud to be part of this event, which is being fully organised by UEFA.

Importantly, this represents a significant milestone for the game in Scotland and a first step towards officially recognised international Walking Football. It is an exciting moment for all involved and reflects the continued growth and development of the sport.

We are also incredibly excited to join seven other FA-approved national teams, coming together for what promises to be a true festival celebration of Walking Football on the European stage.

Due to the tight timescales involved, the player selection process is necessarily condensed. We are extremely grateful to our Regional Managers across the country for their swift support in submitting nominations from their WFS regional squads for consideration.

A squad of nine players – comprising a minimum of four men, four women, and a goalkeeper – will be selected. The chosen players will have the honour of representing Scotland for the first time at an international Walking Football event. The final squad announcement will be made in due course.

We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to UEFA, the Scottish Football Association, and Scottish Para-Football for their continued support in helping make this opportunity possible.

Further updates will follow soon.

Scottish Clubs Compete Abroad with Spirit and Unity 🌍⚽

It’s been a significant period for clubs travelling overseas, enjoying both competition and camaraderie on the international stage.

Falkirk Walking Football Club were in Spain competing at the Copa de Mazarrón, where The Bairns enjoyed a fantastic experience together both on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile in Portugal, the EuroCopa Tournament in the Algarve saw strong Scottish representation from Forth Valley, Motherwell FC CT, Pollok United and Oriam. However, the event was also marked with great sadness following the passing of Regional Manager Gerry Butler.

Our thoughts are with all four clubs, their players and teammates who were present. In difficult circumstances, the support shown to one another was a true reflection of the strength and unity within the walking football community.

Albion Rovers Launch New Women’s Walking Football Session 👏⚽

Albion Rovers have taken an exciting step forward with the launch of their new women’s walking football session.

We were delighted to support the club with start-up funding, helping bring this opportunity to life. On the night, Regional Representative Claire McCosh was on hand to support the session, which saw a terrific turnout and a great atmosphere from the outset.

It’s fantastic to see more opportunities being created for women to get involved in walking football, and we look forward to seeing the session continue to grow and develop in the months ahead.

The World of Football venue in Edinburgh recently played host to a successful Prostate Charity Walking Football event, organised by Edinburgh City Walking Football’s Billy Brown.

The event brought players together for a great day of football, all in support of a fantastic cause. Thanks to the efforts of everyone involved, an impressive £1,020 has been raised so far, with additional donations still to come.

Player of the Month (April) - David Ellis & Lorraine Pratt

As April comes to an end, we’re proud to once again shine a spotlight on the people who make Walking Football Scotland’s Players of the Month so special—once again in partnership with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

🌟 April Women’s Player of the Month
Lorraine Pratt (61) – Midlothian Ladies

🌟 April Men’s Player of the Month
David Ellis (52) – Glenbuck & Douglas Valley

Huge congratulations to David & Lorraine!

Both shared their reflections on what walking football means to them, highlighting the friendships, health benefits and sense of belonging that keep our community moving forward 💙⚽

Why did you get involved in walking football?

Lorraine: “I got involved in walking football for two reasons:

1 – I played football for years in my teens and couldn’t quite believe it when I discovered I could play again albeit walking

2 – I was going through quite a hard time in my life after my Dad was diagnosed with Dementia. It devastated our whole family but playing football twice a week with the loveliest of people helped me both mentally and physically to deal with everything that was happening.”

David: “I was coaching my son’s team within the club’s setup and had stopped playing for a number of years and missed the enjoyment of getting out and playing but it was taking longer to recover from all the diving about. One of the coaches had mentioned they were starting a walking football section and wondered if I’d come along. I thought it would be a great level to get back playing, but at a more sedate pace.”

What positive impact has walking football had on your life?

Lorraine: “It had a massive impact on my physical fitness, even managing to lose weight. But the social side has been amazing with lots of days and nights out and some tournaments abroad which are such fun.”

David: “It’s brought the enjoyment back of playing football in a team and as I’ve got older the passion hasn’t faded and walking football keeps me active doing a sport I love. It also brings together a great group of lads who feel the same and it’s almost like a relief valve where we can talk about issues we may have.”

What would you say to encourage others to come along?

Lorraine: “I would definitely encourage anyone to come along and try it, even if you have never played before, you will be made to feel very welcome.”

David: “Give it a go! You probably think your football ship has sailed but walking football gives you that opportunity to re-live your footballing youth at a slower pace and it gets the joints moving more than you think. Our team also encourages each other whatever your level and we are there to listen if you want to get something off your chest!”

WFS O60's Men's East Leagues

The WFS O60’s Men’s East of Scotland Leagues return for Round 2 this Friday at the Oriam National Performance Centre, with an exciting and competitive day in store.

In the Premiership, it’s incredibly tight early on, with just three points separating the top six teams. We also have a standout top-of-the-table clash as Dundee East CSC take on Dunfermline Dynamos, a fixture that could have a big impact on how the table begins to take shape.

In the Championship, it’s a similar story with a strong and competitive division. The opening match sees Hearts 98’s take on Oriam 2015, setting the tone for what promises to be a closely contested round of fixtures.

It’s shaping up to be an exciting day at Oriam, and we look forward to seeing how all teams fare by late Friday afternoon. ⚽
