SWF WFS O40’s Women’s Leagues

It was a fantastic day at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility as the SWF WFS O40’s Women’s Premiership season got underway, showcasing another strong step forward for women’s walking football.

In the Premiership, last year’s champions Braehead FC - Reds continued their excellent form, winning all four of their opening matches to establish an early four-point lead at the top of the table. Tay City Strollers sit in second place after a strong start to life in the top flight, following their promotion as Championship winners last season.

The Championship has also seen an exciting influx of new teams this year, adding depth and competitiveness to the division. Oriam Ladies have made a superb start to competitive action and currently sit top of the table after Round 1.

We thank all players and clubs for their contribution to a fantastic opening day, and extend our appreciation to Regional League Co-ordinator David Callaghan for his efforts in delivering a successful start to the season. ⚽

WFS O50's Men's West Leagues

The WFS Men’s Over 50’s West of Scotland Leagues get underway on Sunday 29th March at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, with a record 24 teams taking part across the divisions this season. The continued growth highlights the strong appetite for competitive walking football in the West of Scotland.

In the Premiership, reigning champions Pollok Utd begin their title defence with an opening fixture against newly promoted Dumbarton FC – Yellows, which should provide an early test for both sides.

In the Championship, Giffnock SC Auld Timers will be looking to bounce straight back following last season’s relegation and open their campaign against Park Villa.

The Conference also welcomes several new teams to the Over 50’s age category this year. We are delighted to see Alloa Athletic, Dunblane, Morton FC, and two teams from Shotts Bon Accord join the competition. It will be exciting to see how they all perform in their first season at this level.

We wish all teams and players the very best as the O50’s leagues kick off in the West of Scotland, and we look forward to a fantastic day of walking football at Ravenscraig.

WFS O70’s Men’s West Premiership

The WFS Men’s O70’s West Premiership got underway today at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, beginning with a moment of reflection and applause in honour of Jim Fleeting, who sadly passed away last weekend. Jim made a significant contribution to football development across Scotland, and it was a fitting tribute to recognise his impact at the start of the day.

The league continues to grow, with new teams Carrick WFC, Giffnock North, and Whitletts Victoria joining the competition this season, further strengthening the division.

On the pitch, last year’s champions Duncanrig EK picked up where they left off, making a strong start to sit top of the table after Round 1. However, it’s incredibly tight early on, with Giffnock SC Auld Timers level on points and just behind on goal difference.

A big well done to all players and referees who contributed to an excellent opening day of football. Special thanks also go to Regional League Co-ordinator Derek King for his efforts in delivering a smooth and successful start to the season. ⚽

Walking football continues to flourish across Scotland, with clubs celebrating personal achievements, hosting exciting tournaments and enjoying friendly fixtures as preparations continue for the season ahead. From award winners to festival-style events and competitive finals, it’s been another busy and positive spell for the walking football community.

Tam Moffat Honoured as Senior Sports Person of the Year 🏆

There has been a welcome rise in numbers attending sessions at Dunfermline Dynamos, highlighting the continued growth of walking football in the area.

The club recently took time to recognise one of their own, Tam Moffat, who scooped the Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council Senior Sports Person Award. A fantastic achievement and richly deserved recognition for Tam’s commitment and contribution to sport. Congratulations!

Carnoustie Panmure Triumph at Street Soccer Tournament 🏆

The annual Street Soccer Walking Football Tournament took place on 13 March at the Change Centre in Dundee, bringing together clubs from across the country for a fantastic day of football.

Teams taking part included Street Soccer, Dundee East, Dundee Community Trust, Hearts, Oriam, Stenhousemuir, Carnoustie Panmure, St James, Stonehaven Strollers and Arbroath.

After a hard-fought day of matches, the final saw Carnoustie Panmure defeat Dundee East on penalties following an entertaining 1–1 draw.

A huge thank you goes to the organisers and the team at the Change Centre for providing excellent facilities and support for another successful event.

Clubs Come Together for Friendly Matches in East Kilbride 🤝

It’s always great to see clubs coming together for friendly fixtures and camaraderie, and that was certainly the case as Drumchapel United, Glasgow Life and Townhead Strollers met in East Kilbride.

The matches offered valuable game time and preparation ahead of upcoming Walking Football Scotland competitive fixtures, while also reinforcing the strong friendships that exist between clubs.

Over 70s Festival of Football at Galabank ☀️⚽

Annan Athletic were delighted to host a special Over 70s walking football event at Galabank, with the sunshine making it a perfect afternoon for football.

The Galabank MUGA played host to a festival of football featuring Annan Athletic, Carrick and Carlisle, with the teams enjoying competitive matches played in a fantastic spirit.

A brilliant day celebrating the game and the continued opportunities for players to stay active and connected through walking football.

Rossvale Ladies Celebrate Friendship and a Year of Success 💜⚽

The Rossvale Ladies Walking Football Team recently gathered for their AGM and presentation evening, taking time to reflect on the past year while also looking ahead to an exciting season to come.

More than anything, the evening was a celebration of the incredible group of women who make up the team — recognising their commitment, achievements and, most importantly, the lifelong friendships that have formed through walking football.

A fantastic night celebrating the spirit and community that make the game so special.

These stories once again highlight the true spirit of walking football — bringing people together through sport, celebrating achievements, building friendships and supporting communities. A huge well done to everyone involved, and we look forward to many more great moments as the season continues. ⚽👏

WFS SWF O40's Women's Premiership & Championship

The WFS SWF Over 40’s Women’s Premiership and Championship get underway on Sunday 22nd March at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, marking another exciting step forward for the growth of women’s walking football.

A record 18 teams will take part this season, highlighting the continued expansion of the game. We are grateful for the continued support from Scottish Women's Football, which plays an important role in creating and developing opportunities within the women’s game.

In the Premiership, last season’s champions Braehead FC – Reds begin their title defence in the opening match of the season against Stenhousemuir, which promises to be a fantastic way to get the new campaign underway.

In the Championship, we are delighted to welcome four new teams into the competition this year. Jeanfield Swifts, John Sutton CC, Oriam Ladies, and an additional Rangers FFIT side join the division, adding further strength and depth to what is shaping up to be a very competitive league.

WFS O70's Men's West Premiership

The WFS Men’s O70’s West Premiership gets underway on Friday 20th March at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, with teams ready to begin another exciting season of competitive walking football.

Last year’s champions Duncanrig EK will be looking to build on their success from last season as they begin their title defence. Their opening round of fixtures will see them face Morton FC, Giffnock SC Auld Timers, Pollok Utd, and Motherwell FC CT.

This season also sees three new teams join the league at this age category, and we are delighted to welcome Carrick WFC, Giffnock North, and Whitletts Victoria. Their addition further highlights the continued growth of walking football across the region.

The WFS Men’s O70’s East Premiership kicked off today at the Oriam National Performance Centre, with teams returning for another exciting season of competitive walking football.

It’s already tight at the top after the opening round of fixtures, with Fife Wanderers and last year’s champions Alloa Athletic both taking maximum points from their matches. The early pace-setters will meet at the next league date, a clash that is sure to provide an exciting early highlight in the title race.

WFS SWF O50's Women's Premiership

It was a fitting way to mark International Women’s Day as the WFS SWF O50’s Women’s Premiership season got underway at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.

With further team increases this year, more than 100 women came together to begin the new campaign, highlighting the continued growth of women’s walking football and the strong community around the game.

After the opening round of fixtures, Rangers FFIT sit top of the table, holding a three-point lead after playing one game more than their nearest rivals. Close behind are last season’s champions Braehead FC - Reds and Linlithgow Rose, setting the stage for what promises to be another competitive season.

A big well done to all players and referees who contributed to a fantastic opening day, and a special thank you to Regional League Co-ordinator David Callaghan for his efforts in helping deliver a successful start to the season.

WFS O70's Men's East Premiership

The WFS Over 70’s Men’s East Premiership gets underway next Tuesday 10th March at the Oriam National Performance Centre, as teams prepare for another exciting season of competitive walking football.

All eyes will be on reigning champions Alloa Athletic, who enjoyed a remarkable campaign last year, winning all 16 of their league matches to lift the title in dominant fashion. They begin their title defence with an opening fixture against Oriam, before facing a big early test against last season’s runners-up North Lanarkshire Council.

With strong competition expected throughout the division, the new season promises to be another closely contested and high-quality league.

We wish all teams the very best for the season ahead and look forward to a fantastic start at Oriam.

WFS SWF O50’s Women’s Premiership

The WFS SWF Over 50’s Women’s Premiership gets underway this Sunday at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, marking another exciting step forward for the growth of women’s walking football.

A record 13 teams will take part this season, highlighting the continued expansion of the game. We are grateful for the ongoing support from Scottish Women’s Football, which continues to play a key role in developing opportunities within the women’s game.

Last season’s champions Braehead FC – Reds begin their title defence after an unbeaten campaign, where they lifted the trophy ahead of Rangers FFIT. They open the new season with an intriguing fixture against their club counterparts Braehead FC – Navy, before taking on Cumnock Striders and Giffnock SC Women.

Huge congratulations to Eleanor & Mike!

Both shared their reflections on what walking football means to them, highlighting the friendships, health benefits and sense of belonging that keep our community moving forward 💙⚽

Why did you get involved in walking football?

Eleanor: “I mainly got involved for exercise and meeting other women who play football. I played football in the 1960's and 70's so it was great to be back playing.”

Mike: “I have always been involved with football since primary school. I played competitively until the age of 41, but combined my later years of playing with coaching and management, which I continued to do until recently. I got involved with Walking Football because I still had the passion to play and enjoy the general friendship and camaraderie of a football community.”

What positive impact has walking football had on your life?

Eleanor: “It has increased my physical activity, and helped reducing pain from my osteoarthritis. It has encouraged sociability and I have met so many new people.”

Mike: “It certainly helped smooth my transition into retirement at the age of 64. Like many Walking Football members, my friends and social connections were mainly work colleagues or business associates. Walking Football has helped me engage with old and new friends in a wonderful, friendly environment. It has helped my physical, mental, and social fitness.”

What would you say to encourage others to come along?

Eleanor: “Come along and join the fun and camaraderie with women and men. No pressure, just playing at your own pace. Beginners are welcome and you can learn a new skill playing walking football.”

Mike: “As one of the organisers of our Walking Football group, I have seen the membership grow from only 10 back in 2018 to 81 today. It’s a fantastic environment to enhance your fitness, bond with old and new friends, and participate in other social activities that grow from being part of the group. Just come along and give it a try - you won’t regret it!”

WFS O75’s Men’s National Premiership

History was made today as the WFS Over 75’s Men’s National Premiership officially kicked off, marking the launch of the inaugural league at this age category and another major milestone for walking football in Scotland.

Seven teams took part in what was a truly special occasion at the start of this new national competition — Ayr Utd, Drumchapel Utd, Fife Wanderers, Forth Valley, Morton FC, North Lanarkshire Council, and Southside 75’ers — all playing their part in a memorable day for the sport.

The matches themselves were closely contested, with plenty of draws highlighting just how evenly matched the teams are in this new division. After Round 1, it is Fife Wanderers who sit top of the table, making a strong start in this historic campaign.

A special mention must go to Jack Gorman for what will surely go down as the goal of the day — a perfectly placed “postage stamp” finish into the top corner during the opening match, a strike worthy of such a landmark occasion.

This has been a truly special and memorable day for WFS. To now be in a position where we can offer competitive walking football at Over 75’s level is a testament to the growth of the game and the commitment of players who continue to stay active, fit and passionate about football.

We thank all players, clubs, and referees for playing their part in such a historic day for walking football in Scotland, and with the sport continuing to grow, there are undoubtedly more milestones still to come.
