As the year wraps up, walking football clubs across Scotland have been celebrating in style — from tournament victories and cross-border friendlies to festive gatherings, charity fundraising, and community events.

It’s been a brilliant spell of football, friendship, and generosity, showcasing everything that makes our game so special.

Here’s a look at the latest stories from across our walking football family…

A Special Visitor at Dundee East CSC – Trophy Time at Whitton Park 🏆

It’s not every day you get the chance to share the pitch with a trophy-winning Scotland international player…

But at Dundee East CSC, it actually happens every Sunday morning at Whitton Park.

This week, regular player Rob Wilson arrived with something extra special — the trophy recently won by the Scotland Amputee Football Association team following their outstanding success in Romania, where they won all three matches and scored an incredible number of goals along the way.

Rob has become a much-loved part of the Dundee social and inclusive walking football sessions, and it was fantastic for everyone to share in the pride of his squad’s achievement.

Moments like this highlight the inspiring mix of backgrounds, abilities, and stories that walking football brings together each week.

Well done to Rob and the entire team and well done to Dundee East for continuing to build such a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Oriam Celebrate Their Christmas Night Out & 10th Anniversary in Style 🎄🍽️

Oriam Walking Football held their Christmas Night Out on Friday 5 December at Baberton Golf Club, and it proved to be the perfect setting for a brilliant evening.

The venue was fantastic, the food was excellent, and the service was top-class — everything you need for a great end-of-year celebration.

A number of awards were presented on the night, including special recognition for Les Morrison and Deric Oliver, who stepped down from the committee after 12 years of combined service. Their dedication and commitment have played a huge part in shaping the club’s success.

The night was a warm and fitting way to close out Oriam’s 10th Anniversary year, celebrating friendship, football, and a decade of growth.

Glenafton Athletic Triumph in the Anglo-Scottish Cup

A fantastic day of football took place recently as Glenafton Athletic lifted the Anglo Scottish Cup, capping off a superb tournament filled with community atmosphere.

Hosted by Queen of the South, the competition brought together eight teams from across the region including a few clubs from England, all vying for the prestigious cross-border title.

Glenafton showed determination, composure, and teamwork from the first whistle to the last, navigating the group stages as runners up before progressing through to the final, where they faced a strong Gretna side again.

In a well-fought and exciting final, Glenafton Athletic came out on top, securing the trophy and earning well-deserved celebrations with players.

A huge congratulations to Glenafton Athletic on their success, and credit to Queen of the South for hosting a fantastic tournament enjoyed by all eight teams.

Carnoustie Top the Table at Dundee East Mini Tournament

Another celebration is in order as Carnoustie came out top of the table at the Dundee East Mini Walking Football Tournament, held at the Quest Arena.

The event brought together clubs from across the area for a brilliant day of football, friendship, and festive generosity. Alongside the action on the pitch, the hosts ensured a warm welcome with tea, coffee, cakes, and plenty of hospitality, helping create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for all.

A huge thank you also goes to everyone who contributed to the tournament’s Christmas Appeal in support of Claypotts Primary and Ballumbie Nursery Schools.

The donations received were far beyond expectations, and the kindness shown by players, supporters, and volunteers was deeply appreciated.

Well done to Carnoustie on their success, and a massive thank you to all who attended, supported, and helped make it such a memorable day. 👏👏👏

Annan Athletic O70s Take on Carlisle United in Cross-Border Clash 🇬🇧⚽

A brilliant footballing occasion unfolded recently as Annan Athletic O70s made the short journey across the border to take on Carlisle United O70s at Neil Centre, Brunton Park, hosted by Carlisle United Community Trust.

The fixture brought together two well-respected clubs in the walking football community, with both sides showing great skill, spirit, and mutual respect throughout. The match was played in excellent conditions and in the true ethos of walking football — competitive but friendly, with plenty of laughs, encouragement, and camaraderie.

Cross-border fixtures like this highlight the strong relationships developing between clubs in Scotland and the north of England, offering players the chance to enjoy new experiences, meet new friends, and continue growing the walking football family.

A big thank you to Carlisle United Community Trust for their hospitality and warm welcome, and well done to Annan Athletic O70s for representing their club so proudly on the road.

Peoples Ford Win Business Contribution of the Year Award 🌟

A special congratulations goes to Peoples Ford, who were recently honoured with the Business Contribution of the Year Award at the Glasgow Sports Awards for their outstanding support of the Glasgow Life Parkinson’s Walking Football Festival.

This marks the third consecutive year that Peoples Ford have sponsored the festival — an event that continues to grow in size, impact, and importance each year. Their commitment has helped ensure that more players, families, and carers benefit from this hugely successful and deeply valued programme.

Chairman Brian Gilda proudly accepted the award during the ceremony held at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, an evening dedicated to recognising individuals, organisations, and groups who have made a significant contribution to sport throughout 2025.

A huge thank you to Peoples Ford for their ongoing support and belief in the power of walking football to change lives.

Festive Celebrations at Schawpark Golf Club 🎄🎉

The festive season is well underway, and Schawpark Golf Club played host to a fantastic Christmas celebration as Alloa Athletic gathered to mark what has been an amazing and hugely successful season — with the exciting prospect of even more to come.

Players, volunteers, and supporters enjoyed a fabulous meal and excellent service, creating the perfect setting to reflect on their achievements throughout the year. Laughter, stories, and heartfelt moments filled the room as the club celebrated not only results on the pitch, but the friendships and togetherness that define their walking football community.

Drumchapel United Celebrate a Special End-of-Season Christmas Party 🎄⚽

Drumchapel United brought the curtain down on another fantastic year with a brilliant end-of-season Christmas party, filled with everything that makes their club special — great food, warm friendships, laughter, and camaraderie.

Players, volunteers, coaches, family, and supporters all came together for an evening that celebrated not only the football, but the spirit and togetherness at the heart of Drumchapel Utd. As always, the club recognised the efforts of its members with a series of well-deserved awards, applauding commitment, teamwork, improvement, and the values that keep their walking football community thriving.

The night carried an extra special touch thanks to the presence of one of their own — club member and Walking Football Scotland trustee, David MacKinnon. The former professional footballer shared stories from his playing career, offering insight, inspiration, and plenty of laughs. His tales from the dressing room and beyond added a memorable spark to the celebrations.

It was an evening that perfectly captured what Drumchapel United is all about: community, inclusivity, friendship, and making memories together on and off the pitch.

These stories highlight what walking football is all about: connection, support, laughter, and shared moments on and off the pitch.

Thank you to every club, volunteer, partner, and player for making 2025 such a memorable year.

WFS Attend Scottish Para Football Gala Dinner

Walking Football Scotland were proud to support our friends at Scottish Para Football as they hosted their inaugural Gala Dinner at the iconic home of Scottish football, Hampden Park. This landmark event brought together people from across the football community to celebrate the power of the sport to unite, inspire, and change lives.

Trustees, volunteers, and members from Walking Football clubs around the country enjoyed a memorable evening of camaraderie and celebration, reflecting the shared values that bind us all—community, inclusivity, and a deep love for the game.

The evening was expertly hosted by award-winning comedian Ray Bradshaw, whose warmth and humour guided guests through the night. Attendees were also treated to insights from former Scotland international Pat Nevin, who shared thoughtful reflections on his football journey and the importance of ensuring that the game remains accessible to everyone.

A special thank-you and huge congratulations go to Scottish Para Football CEO Ashley Reid, whose vision, leadership, and passion were instrumental in creating this outstanding event. Her commitment to growing and strengthening para football in Scotland was clear throughout the evening and deeply appreciated by all in attendance.

For Walking Football Scotland, the Gala Dinner was a powerful reminder of the strength of Scotland’s football family. Our partnership with Scottish Para Football continues to go from strength to strength, united in our mission to ensure people of all ages and abilities have opportunities to enjoy the game in positive, inclusive environments.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Scottish Para Football for inviting us to be part of such a special night, and we look forward to continuing our shared work in championing accessible football across the nation.

WFS O65's Champions League - Pollok Utd Champions!

Pollok Utd Complete Historic Clean Sweep With Unbeaten Treble

Pollok Utd made history today at Ravenscraig, becoming the first men’s team ever to secure a WFS competitive treble and they did it in flawless style.

Already crowned O65’s League Champions and Scottish Cup winners earlier in the year, Maurice Coyne’s side arrived at the O65’s Champions League determined to finish the job. And they did exactly that, lifting the trophy and completing a remarkable treble.

Even more impressively, Pollok Utd’s triumph caps off a perfect season, having won every single WFS competitive match they played in 2025. A level of consistency rarely seen in the game and a huge testament to the squad’s quality, discipline and togetherness.

WFS would like to extend sincere thanks to all six teams who competed this afternoon – Alloa Athletic, Ayr Utd, Carrick WFC, Hearts, North Lanarkshire Council and Pollok Utd – for contributing to a fantastic day of walking football.

And a big thank you to today’s referees for their professionalism across the event.

A special moment, a historic achievement and a season Pollok Utd O65’s will never forget.

WFS Champions League 2025

And that’s a wrap on an incredible WFS League season!

Now all roads lead to Ravenscraig this December as the very best teams from every age group gear up for the WFS Champions League!

Huge congratulations to every club that’s earned their place on the biggest competitive stage of the year — the drama, the quality, and the tension are about to go up another level as this season’s top teams meet each other for one finale.

Champions will rise. Legends will be made.

WFS O60’s Premiership & Championship - Glasgow Life & Saint Anthony’s - Champions!

What a dramatic finale at Toryglen as the WFS O60’s West leagues came to an exciting close!

Glasgow Life were today crowned Premiership Champions, reclaiming the title in extraordinary fashion. They began the day with a slender two-point lead over challengers Pollok Utd, but an early twist saw them drop points in their opening match to Morton FC, who were bottom of the table.

With Pollok Utd winning all their remaining games – and Glasgow Life matching that response – everything came down to a blockbuster final match between the top two. Pollok entered the decider top of the table on superior goal difference, but Glasgow Life rose to the moment, securing a 2–1 victory to lift the trophy.

It was a fitting and emotional end for a Glasgow Life squad that has been together for many years, closing out the 2025 season as champions before the team disbands. Congratulations to Townhead Strollers who finished in third place claiming the final Champions League spot.

In the Championship, Saint Anthony's capped off an outstanding debut season at O60’s by going unbeaten to clinch the title. Their consistent performances mark them as strong contenders for next year’s Premiership.

We were honoured to have Former Motherwell and Celtic legend, Tom Boyd, join us once again to present the trophies and medals. We are extremely grateful for his continued support and generosity with his time.

A huge thank you to all players, clubs, regional reps and referees for their commitment, sportsmanship and support throughout the season.

Player of the Month (November) - Lynn Gilfillan & Ken Francey

We’re keeping up with our monthly spotlight on Walking Football Scotland Players of the Month in partnership with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

For November the Walking Football Scotland Women’s Player of the Month is Lynn Gilfillan! Lynn, 53, plays with Stenhousemuir.

Walking Football Scotland Men’s Player of the Month is Ken Francey! Ken, 73, plays with Oriam.

Congratulations Lynn and Ken! They shared their reflections on what walking football means to them.

Why did you get involved in walking football?

Lynn: “Roisin , now a fellow team mate had roped Yvonne into trying a session and she asked me to join her as well and I just laughed at the thought of trying the sport at the time - I couldn’t have been more wrong - I never knew what I had been missing!”

Ken: “I got into walking football for fitness, to meet new people, but mostly just to be able to play football once more.”

What positive impact has walking football had on your life?

Lynn: “Its made a huge impact to my life - I have loved the experience of playing in a team with a fantastic group of ladies and excellent coaching at Stenny. The feeling of community within the group is amazing, everyone looks after one another. The fun we have at the sessions is terrific and now we socialise through other activities as well, we have tried footgolf, bowling, quizzes just to name a few. ”

Ken: “The social side, meeting up with friendly familiar faces, is important but there is also the unofficial support networks it provides.  

For example, I have had, and been successfully treated for, prostate cancer.  I have been able to share the practical details of the tests and treatment options as well as provide, I believe, a positive vibe about being able to get through it and come out happy and healthy.  I’ve also been able to share the doubts and bad feelings we all get and been given the nudge to look towards ’the bright side of life’.

Getting better at understanding the game has also helped me appreciate and admire skills and talents in other teams and players and why they play so well.  That has lead to friendships across the WF community.”

What would you say to encourage others to come along?

Lynn: “It is such good fun being part of a team whether you have enjoyed football in the past or have never kicked a ball in your life before but want to make friends and enjoy this sport just give it a try. It will get you fit and give you the opportunity to make new friends. .”

Ken: “Come along and give it a go! Apart from the improved fitness and social side, it’s that walking football is a proper game – the more you get to understand it, the more you realise that it works on a different level with different tactics to the traditional game. It’s brilliant!”

Drumchapel United Hand Over Incredible £1,000 to CHSS 💙

Drumchapel United were proud to welcome representatives from Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland alongside WFS Trustee Matt Ramsay to one of their local sessions recently, where they officially handed over the cheque for their outstanding fundraising total — over £1,000.

Drumchapel continue to embody what walking football is all about. They are a club with community and inclusivity at their core, working tirelessly to support local causes and create a welcoming space for players of all backgrounds.

Pollok Utd Lift the Trophy at Esquina Park Rangers Tournament 🏆

A massive congratulations to Pollok United, who travelled to take part in the Esquina Park Rangers Tournament — and returned home victorious once again!

Another trophy for the group and a huge well done to all the players involved. 👏

Retro Magic at Scone WFC’s Classic Football Shirt Day 👕✨

Scone Walking Football Club brought colour, nostalgia and plenty of laughs to their recent session as they hosted a fantastic Classic Football Shirt Day.

With a brilliant turnout, players arrived sporting some truly iconic — and in some cases, wonderfully obscure — shirts, including:

• First Vienna FC 1894

• St Johnstone FC

• Dundee United

• Liverpool FC

• Inter Milan

• The rarely-seen Scalloway FC from Shetland

• And even the beloved fictional legends of AFC Richmond

It was a fun-packed day celebrating the history and culture of the game we all love. A superb idea delivered perfectly by the Scone family! 👏🔥

Raith Rovers Host Their 2025 Christmas Cup at Stark’s Park 🎄⚽

On Sunday 9th November, Raith Rovers Walking Football hosted their annual Christmas Cup, and this year’s event was their biggest yet.

With 12 teams competing and close to 100 players aged 50+ taking part, the pitches at Stark’s Park were buzzing with action, energy and festive spirit.

After a day of brilliant football, Forfar were crowned champions, defeating Arbroath in a competitive and entertaining final.

Huge congratulations to Raith Rovers for organising such a fantastic event — another shining example of community football at its very best. 🎄🏆

Heineken UK Celebrate International Men’s Day With Walking Football 💚⚽

As part of International Men’s Day, staff from HEINEKEN UK’s Edinburgh team came together for a special walking football session delivered in partnership with Hearts FC coaches.

The session celebrated the men across the organisation, promoting physical activity, mental wellbeing, teamwork, and a chance to connect away from the workplace.

It was inspiring to see colleagues from different departments lace up and enjoy the simple joy of the game while supporting wellbeing across the business. A brilliant initiative and a brilliant day. 💚

A Global Game, A Local Connection — A Chance Meeting in Madrid ✈️🏈

Walking football is powerful — not just for health and community, but also for the friendships it creates, sometimes in the most unexpected places.

One of our referees Rob Brown recently bumped into Oriam player Ewan at Madrid Airport, shortly after both had attended an NFL match. The two share a club bond and passion for the Washington Redskins, discovering a connection formed first through walking football and strengthened by sport across the world.

Charity Partners Bring Health Checks to Montrose Community Trust 💖🩺

Our charity partners were on the road this week, visiting Montrose Community Trust to provide free blood pressure checks, health advice, and information on their upcoming programmes for the new year.

The goal is ambitious but deeply meaningful — to reach 100 people between now and Christmas, helping the community take proactive steps toward protecting their heart health.

WFS O60's West Premiership & Championship

The curtain comes down on our final league of the year as the WFS O60’s West Premiership and Championship reach an exciting conclusion at Toryglen this Friday.

In the Premiership, Glasgow Life hold a slender 2-point lead at the top with four games still to play. Their final match sees them go head-to-head with closest challengers Pollok Utd, setting up a potentially dramatic title decider with everything on the line.

In the Championship, Saint Anthony’s have been outstanding all season, going unbeaten so far. They require just one point from their final three matches to secure the league title and seal promotion.

With league trophies, Champions League qualification, promotion, and relegation all still to be decided, it promises to be a thrilling finale to the West of Scotland season.

We wish all teams and players the very best of luck for an exciting and competitive final day!

WFS O40's Women's Regional Trophy - North East Champions!

We wrapped up our final event today with a fantastic display of talent, teamwork, and determination in the Women’s Over 40s Regional Trophy.

A huge congratulations to the North East Region, who were crowned champions—picking up the trophy for the second time today and completing an impressive Regional Trophy double! An outstanding achievement that highlights their consistency, quality, and collective spirit across both competitions.

Massive credit goes to all the players who represented their regional teams with pride and passion. Your commitment to the game continues to inspire everyone involved in walking football.

A heartfelt thank you to the managers, assistants, volunteers, and referees for their incredible support throughout today’s events. These competitions simply wouldn’t be possible without your dedication behind the scenes.

WFS O50's Men's Regional Trophy - South West Champions!

South West made it a 2025 double as the Men’s Over 50s team were crowned Regional Trophy Champions today at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.

After lifting the Regional Cup in June, the South West have now added the Regional Trophy to their achievements—an impressive and well-deserved double for 2025.

Huge congratulations to the Management Team:
Jim Marshall, Brian Connolly, and Billy Bentley for guiding the squad to another outstanding victory.

A big thank you to all players, teams, regional managers and assistants and referees for their energy, effort, and support throughout the day. Events like this thrive because of your commitment and enthusiasm.

WFS O50's Women's Regional Trophy - North East Champions!

The Women’s Over 50s Regional Trophy reached an exciting conclusion today at Ravenscraig, where the North East Region emerged as 2025 Champions!

A huge congratulations to the North East squad and their management team, David Callaghan and Jim Gilfeather, on an outstanding achievement.

A big thank you to all players, teams, regional managers and their assistants and referees for their effort, commitment, and support throughout the event. The spirit of competition and sportsmanship on display truly showcased the very best of walking football.

Well done once again to the North East Region—worthy champions of the Women’s O50s Regional Trophy!

WFS O70’s East Premiership - Alloa Athletic - Champions!

The WFS O70’s East Premiership came to an exciting conclusion today at the Oriam National Performance Centre, where Alloa Athletic were officially crowned champions after an extraordinary unbeaten season, winning every single game. Their consistency, strength and quality across the campaign made them deserving champions in every sense.

This triumph also marks an incredible treble for Alloa Athletic in 2025, having already been crowned O60’s and O65’s league champions too. A remarkable achievement and a year that will be remembered in club history.

Congratulations also go to Stenhousemuir and North Lanarkshire Council, who finished second and third respectively, securing the remaining Champions League qualification spots for the finals on 15th December.

It has already been a special week for Scottish football, and the players were given a memorable surprise when Scotland and Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon walked in to carry out today’s trophy and medal presentations—fresh from his World Cup qualifying heroic win on Tuesday night. His appearance brought huge excitement and pride to everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all players, clubs, referees, and regional representatives for their tremendous support, effort and commitment throughout the season.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for another fantastic season of walking football.
