O50's CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The first of our Champions League events kick off this coming Sunday as the top 3 teams from the East and West meet to compete to be crowned O50’s Champions League winners.

From the East, league winners Arbroath as well as Oriam and Hearts will join West league winners, Giffnock SC Auld Timers, North Lanarkshire Council and Braehead for what we are sure will be an exciting afternoon of walking football at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.

It’s a straight 5 match, winner takes all, event and we look forward in seeing who will lift our new Champions League trophy for the first time.

O70's PREMIERSHIP & JIM McCALLIOG

It is the final day of the season on Wednesday as our Over 70’s are the final age group to conclude the competitive league season prior to the Over 50’s & 60’s Champions League.

The 9 teams from across the country will meet for the last time as a National League as we splint into East and West leagues next year with the addition of a Champions League event too.

It is tight at the top with North Lanarkshire Council currently sitting top but with 4 games to be played anything could happen.

We are delighted to be welcoming a huge supporter of WFS, former Wolves, Manchester Utd and Scotland international, Jim McCalliog to present the winning trophy and medals.

We are grateful to Jim who has agreed that for any walking footballer who purchases his new book ‘Wembley Win, Wembley Woes’ priced at £19.99, a £5 donation will be made to WFS on his behalf.

O60's WEST PREMIERSHIP

It was the final day of the season for the WFS Over 60’s West Premiership at Toryglen Regional Football Centre, and it’s 2-in-a-row, as Glasgow Life became Champions for a second successive season.

Impressively, Glasgow Life have come through the full season unbeaten, only conceding 2 goals in the process.

We also congratulate second place Ayr Utd who pushed the champions all the way, and Pollok Thistle who take that final Champions League spot, finishing in third place.

We are grateful to former Rangers and Motherwell player, Bobby Russell for giving his time to come along and present the wining trophy and medals today.

It has been another good season of walking football and we would like to thanks all players, clubs, referees, venue staff and our regional reps for all their support.

O60's WEST PREMIERSHIP

It’s the final day of the season on Wednesday for the WFS Over 60’s West Premiership taking place at Toryglen Regional Football Centre.

Last year’s winners, Glasgow Life are in pole position sitting top 3 points clear with only 2 games still to play but anything can happen in the final day and with top 3 places securing Champions League football, it could be an interesting end to the season.

A few weeks of fundraising and taking part in competitions for our clubs as more money also raised for charity partners, CHSS.

Drumchapel Utd held a tournament between their own players and raised over £200 with trustee Matt Ramsay taking part and accepting the kind donation and in the South East, Dunbar have been extremely busy with a host of fundraising events including; festivals, club dinner and quiz nights as well as waiving their usual weekly sessions fees which instead were put aside for CHSS as the raised an incredible £668!

There have been recent tournaments in the South West of the country with Glenafton Athletic victorious in a tournament organised by Queen of the South.

Pollok Utd have been on tour and finished Runners Up in a Walking Football tournament in Malaga, Spain whereas there has also been exciting times at Fife Wanderers as players Bill McConnell and Rab Robertson proudly unveiled the new Walking Football trophy cabinet at Bayview. Both gents played in all of the clubs successes with WFS O65’s Champions League, WFS O65’s Scottish Cup and O70’s Glasgow Trophy.

040's WOMEN'S PREMIERSHIP

𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗴𝗼𝘄 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗙𝗖 - 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀!

It’s was the final day of the season today for the WFS Over 40’s Women’s Premiership taking place at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Wishaw where Linlithgow Rose - Whites were crowned champions!

It has been an impressive season for the champions as they won all of their 12 league fixtures and therefore, 5 points clear of challengers and last year’s winners Braehead.

Congratulations to Linlithgow Rose and a well done to all players, clubs, referees, regional reps and venue staff in ensuring a successful season for our Women’s Walking Football.

We look forward in welcoming you back next year as we expand our leagues to O40’s Premiership & Championship as well as a new Over 50’s category too.

On this Remembrance Sunday, we would also like to thank everyone for impeccably observing today’s minute silence. Thank you!

Linlithgow Rose - Whites are in pole position, top of the league, 4 points clear with a game in hand and impressively still unbeaten but could there be a final day nerves in what we know will be another terrific final day of the walking football season.

We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of our clubs as the money keeps coming in from fundraising events that they have held to raise money for charity partners, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

From Midlothian Ladies, Arbroath and Morton, we say a massive thank you for the kindness and support you have given to raise the incredible amounts of money the past month.

Regional Rep Gordon Farquharson has been out this week catching up with newly affiliated club, Dundee United Sports Club to support their development and offer advice and Girvan in the South West of the country were also delighted to receive their new WFS bibs, with more visits to affiliated clubs coming soon as well as sharing our grand total we have raised for CHSS.

O60's EAST PREMIERSHIP

It’s was the final day of the season today for the WFS Over 60’s East Premiership taking place at Oriam National Performance Centre, Edinburgh where Hearts 98’ were crowned champions for a second successive year.

It was another tense final day with teams at the top dropping points but it was Hearts 98’ who came out on top again, 1 point clear of challengers Dundee Utd CT who seal Champions League football alongside third placed, Linlithgow Rose CFC as well.

We were grateful of the support of former Scotland and Hearts Manager, Craig Levein who presented the winning trophy and medals today and we thank him for his continual support.

Congratulations to Hearts and a well done to all players, clubs, referees, regional reps and venue staff in ensuring a successful season in the East of Scotland.

MITRE FOOTBALL OFFER

A reminder that Walking Football Scotland secured a significant deal with one of our preferred suppliers whereby we acquired a large quantity of Mitre Delta Max footballs to pass on to our affiliated clubs. Sales have been good and we now have a limited number of balls remaining, so to secure this excellent offer please see details below.

The balls are FIFA quality & approved pro match, size 5 balls as used in the SPFL and as used at this years WFS Scottish Cup & Festival. They are available in white & blue or yellow & pink. They previously retailed at up to £120 per ball, but WFS are able to offer our affiliated clubs the chance to buy them at £30 per ball providing they purchase a minimum of 3 balls and up to a maximum of 6 balls. Delivery cost will be covered by Walking Football Scotland.

A reminder that nominations for the above award close tomorrow, 31 October 2023.

It is in recognition of those, like Arthur, that strive to serve their club/sessions and/or community and make a change to those that participate in walking football and their wider social and community group(s).

Walking Football Scotland affiliated club representatives and regional representatives can submit nominations for an individual who they believe fits this role. The proposal should be no more than 200 words long and should describe why the representative believes that their nominated individual should receive this award.

Nominations close at noon on Tuesday 31 October 2023 and should be emailed to chairman@walkingfootballscotland.org

The successful nominee will be invited to the WFS AGM, or an event that suits them, to receive the award.

Last year’s winners, Hearts are in pole position sitting top but only 5 points separate the top 5 teams and with top 3 places securing Champions League football, it could be an interesting end to the season.

WFS O50'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Off the back of yesterday’s conclusion to the Over 50’s Leagues for this season, we now have our 2023 finalised teams who will take part in this year’s Champions League, to be played at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility on Sunday 26th November (2-5pm).

The top 3 teams from the East and West Premiership will come together for a special one off event to see who will be crowned Over 50’s Champions League Winners and will lift our new trophy for the very first time.

The teams are:

  • Arbroath

  • Braehead FC

  • Giffnock SC Auld Timers

  • Hearts

  • North Lanarkshire Council

  • Oriam

WFS O50’s Premiership & Championship

It was a dramatic end to the Over 50’s West of Scotland Leagues today at Toryglen with Giffnock SC Auld Timers crowned Premiership Champions and Whitletts Victoria Championship Champions respectively.

It was a nervy finish in the Premiership with it all coming down to the final game for Giffnock to secure the title whilst North Lanarkshire Council and Braehead FC securing the 2 final Champions League spots too.

Meanwhile, Whitletts Vics were crowned champions of the Championship with impressively going through the full season unbeaten. A tremendous achievement!

They pipped Motherwell FC CT to the title with both clubs now promoted to the Premiership next season.

We say a massive thanks to our referees for the season as without them there would be no competitions and also thanks to Glasgow Life and Toryglen Regional Football Centre for hosting us this year.

Well done to all teams and players for a successful season and a final thank you to former footballer John Sutton of giving his time to present the winning trophies and medals today.
