WFS O70's Premiership

We were back at Toryglen Regional Football Centre today as we recommenced the second round of fixtures of the 𝗪𝗙𝗦 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟳𝟬'𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

After very mixed results we have new leaders with North Lanarkshire Council recording an impressive 4 victories putting them top closely followed by Fife Wanderers who defeated Ayr Utd meaning the latter drops down to fourth.

Pollok Utd remain unbeaten and still in the mix which will bring encouragement to what is a very competitive league.

Well done to all players for the manner in which matches were played and contested. We now look forward in welcoming you back for the second half of the season after the summer and encourage you to ensure entry forms are in to compete in this year’s Scottish Cup on 24th June.

A new walking football session was launched at Haddington in East Lothian last night and despite the weather being rather dreigh and wet, it did not deter almost thirty hardy souls turning up at Whittingehame 3G pitches.

Supported by ten wonderful women from Midlothian led by WFS Trustee Vivian Wallace and several lads from Dunbar WF including WFS Rep Richard Gdulewicz, several locals came along to see what all the fuss was about and a splendid evening walking football was had by all.

Haddington is historically a strong football community and community coach Colin Bowsher is looking to create a regular walking football session, probably on a Friday evening, so if you are interested give him a call on 0793 900 6232

Regional Reps Club Visits - '𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡'

At the recent 𝗘𝗙𝗗𝗡 Conference in Seville, we heard of so many wonderful ways football clubs have been having an impact in their local communities and that their programmes have been ‘𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡’.

This rings true where our Regional Reps have seen the incredible impact our club’s programmes are having on those whom attend their sessions.

West Regional Rep, Drew Wilson regularly attends and support the 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗴𝗼𝘄 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 - 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮 session where wife’s bring their husbands and care homes bring their residents. A truly powerful use of football supporting the physical and mental health of those who attend.

Over in the East of Scotland, Regional Rep, Gordon Farquharson has also seen the impact of football with 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 delivering a weekly Mental Health walking football group where numbers are continually growing.

We know the true importance of physical, mental and social benefits the game brings but these programmes certainly highlight that it is definitely ‘𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡’.

Well done all teams!

Today sees the final day and seminars of our visit at the 𝗘𝗙𝗗𝗡 - '𝓜𝓸𝓻𝓮 𝓣𝓱𝓪𝓷 𝓕𝓸𝓸𝓽𝓫𝓪𝓵𝓵' 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in Seville, Spain.

There has been a terrific opportunity for networking and sharing good practice as well as insightful presentations from various organisations and clubs from across Europe.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable practical session yesterday joining the Real Betis S.A.D Walking Football team alongside our other European delegates, learning the rules used by EFDN as well as sharing some of our own with a little bit of ‘The Scottish Way’.

We are grateful and would like to thank the EFDN for the invitation to be part of their 19th conference and look forward in what the future may hold for Walking Football in Europe.

Regional Reps - Club Visits

It is always good to hear of the camaraderie when clubs link up with one another to take part in some friendly football. This was the case this week when Regional Reps, Richard Gdulewicz (East Lothian & Berwickshire) and Bobby Craigie (Scottish Borders) joined forces bringing 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝗪𝗙𝗖 and 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 together for a match against each other.

The same can be said in the North of Scotland in a different context where fresh off the back of their Scottish Cup 1/4 Final victory, Manager, John Robertson and first team players of 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗧 joined in at the club’s own Walking Football session to much delight of those regular attendees.
