WFS Statement - 'International Walking Football'

Walking Football Scotland, in partnership with our governing body, the Scottish FA, and as affiliated members of Scottish Para Football, wish to clarify our collective position regarding so-called ‘international’ walking football.

We are proud of the significant progress walking football is making in improving health, wellbeing, and social connection across Scotland. Together with our partners, we remain firmly committed to supporting its continued growth and success. However, strong governance is essential to protecting the integrity of the game.

At present, walking football does not yet meet the governance and structural requirements necessary for an official national representative squad. For this reason, any team claiming to represent ‘Scotland’ — or using similar names that imply national representative status — will not be recognised by Walking Football Scotland, the Scottish FA, or Scottish Para Football. Similarly, events described as ‘international’ walking football will not be formally recognised.

We look forward to working closely with our partners and the walking football community to strengthen structures, raise standards, and ensure the game continues to flourish in the years ahead.
