WFS National Team in Switzerland

History made for Walking Football Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This week marked a truly historic milestone as our first-ever WFS National Team proudly represented Scotland at the 2nd UEFA Walking Football EuroCup in Nyon, Switzerland.

The tournament was an incredible experience from start to finish. Drawn alongside Croatia, Czechia and Greece, the team produced outstanding performances to top Group A with a perfect 9 points from 9, becoming the only nation across both groups to complete the group stage with a 100% record.

Victories over Czechia (3-0), Croatia (1-0) and Greece (3-2) earned a place in the semi-finals, where a high-quality Italy side edged us out 2-1 in a fiercely contested encounter. In the third-place play-off, the soaring Swiss temperatures and an excellent Spanish team proved just too much, with Scotland finishing an outstanding 4th place in our first-ever international competition.

While the results on the pitch were something to celebrate, this week represented so much more.

It demonstrated how far walking football in Scotland has come. From local community sessions and affiliated clubs across the country to competing under the UEFA banner, this is a journey built on the dedication of players, volunteers, coaches, officials and supporters over many years.

A heartfelt thank you to UEFA for delivering such a memorable event and to our exceptional Team Liaison Officer, Mirren Lachendro, whose professionalism, kindness and support made our experience truly unforgettable.

To every player who wore the Scotland shirt this week—thank you for representing our country with pride, humility and passion. You have inspired the next generation of walking footballers and shown what is possible.

This isn’t the end of the journey.

It’s just the beginning.

Our Nation. Our Team. Our Time.
