Carol Gilbert (64) – Oriam Ladies
🌟 September Men’s Player of the Month
Joe McCabe (72) - Linlithgow Rose CFC
Huge congratulations to Carol and Joe!
Both shared their reflections on what walking football means to them, highlighting the friendships, health benefits and sense of belonging that keep our community moving forward 💙⚽
Why did you get involved in walking football?
Carol: “I have always loved football but, other than a spell in my 20’s when a group of my friends decided to start up a ladies team, have never really had the chance to play proper games. Walking football has been the perfect way for me to get involved in the game at an older age.”
Joe: “As I was getting older Walking football was a way to keep playing football and being active.”
What positive impact has walking football had on your life?
Carol: “Walking football has given me a new lease of life. I have always tried to stay active but it’s not always easy to motivate myself. However, I will happily chase a ball around for an hour or so and get a really good workout without seeing it as ‘exercise’. I think I am a whole lot fitter now than I have been in years. It has also given me the opportunity to meet likeminded folk and make new friendships.”
Joe: “The interaction with players of a like mind and who enjoy football has had a positive affect on my physical and wellbeing.”
What would you say to encourage others to come along?
Carol: “If you like or even just want to try football, want to keep fit and meet new folk give it a try. Life is for living and we only have one chance so don’t put it off. I wish I had found it years ago.”
Joe: “Don’t dismiss walking football until you try it and I am sure you will benefit from the interaction and the social aspect.”
