WFS Launches First-Ever Parkinson's Regional Teams
/A New Chapter Begins for Parkinson's Walking Football in Scotland
Walking Football Scotland is delighted to announce the launch of our first-ever WFS Parkinson's Regional Teams, marking another major milestone in the continued growth of Parkinson's walking football across the country.
Over the past few years, Parkinson's walking football has transformed the lives of hundreds of people across Scotland. What started with a handful of sessions has grown into a thriving national network of clubs and groups, helping people living with Parkinson's stay active, improve their wellbeing, build friendships and continue enjoying the game they love.
Now, we're taking the next exciting step.
The introduction of WFS Parkinson's Regional Teams will give players the opportunity to represent their region, train alongside other players from across Scotland, and enjoy a new representative pathway in a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment.
As part of the new programme, Regional Teams will come together to compete in two WFS Parkinson's Regional Events each year, providing players with the opportunity to represent their region, experience friendly competition, and celebrate everything that makes Parkinson's walking football so special. These events will be built around sportsmanship, friendship and enjoyment, while offering players the pride of wearing their regional colours.
Unlike traditional representative football, these teams are about far more than results. They are about celebrating achievement, creating memorable experiences, encouraging participation, and demonstrating the incredible positive impact that walking football can have on those living with Parkinson's.
We're Looking for Regional Team Managers
To help bring this exciting new programme to life, Walking Football Scotland is now inviting applications for the voluntary role of WFS Parkinson's Regional Team Manager.
This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of an ambitious national programme and help shape the future of Parkinson's walking football in your region.
Regional Team Managers will:
Lead and develop their WFS Parkinson's Regional Team.
Organise training sessions and representative fixtures.
Prepare their squad for two annual WFS Parkinson's Regional Events.
Build relationships with Parkinson's walking football groups across their region.
Support players in enjoying a safe, inclusive and rewarding representative experience.
Act as ambassadors for Walking Football Scotland and its values.
