Disciplinary Outcome – Player Registration and Eligibility Breaches: Braehead FC
/Disciplinary Outcome – Player Registration and Eligibility
Walking Football Scotland (WFS) is committed to ensuring that all competitions are delivered fairly, consistently and with the highest levels of sporting integrity.
Following a full investigation into player registration and eligibility matters relating to Braehead FC, WFS has concluded its disciplinary process in accordance with the Competition Rules and League FAQ documentation issued to all participating clubs prior to the start of the season.
The investigation established that four players had participated in the WFS SWF Over 40s Women's Premiership and Championship League fixtures on Sunday 31st May 2026 before their player registrations had been fully completed and approved by WFS. The club acknowledged that the required registration procedures had not been correctly followed.
As previously communicated to all clubs through League Meeting, player registrations must receive written approval from WFS before a player is eligible to participate in any competition.
In accordance with the Competition Rules, the following sanctions have therefore been applied:
The four affected league fixtures have been awarded as 2–0 victories to the opposing teams.
Braehead FC Gold, Braehead FC Reds, Braehead FC Navy and Braehead FC Black have each received a 12-point deduction (3 points per match).
League tables and records have now been updated to reflect these changes.
A registration fine of £20 per ineligible player (£80 total) has been imposed. As this represents the club's first registration offence, WFS has exercised discretion by suspending £40 of the fine for the remainder of the current season, leaving an immediate fine of £40 payable. The suspended amount will only become payable should any further player registration or eligibility breach occur during the current season.
Throughout this process, WFS also sought guidance from other football governing bodies to ensure that the application of competition rules reflected accepted principles of sporting integrity and consistency.
While disciplinary matters are never welcomed, it is essential that all clubs are treated equally and that the Competition Rules are applied consistently whenever breaches occur. This protects the integrity of our competitions and ensures a fair playing environment for every club and player.
WFS would like to remind all clubs that a player is not eligible to participate until their registration has been fully completed and written confirmation has been received from Walking Football Scotland. Clubs should never assume that a registration has been approved.
We thank all affiliated clubs for their continued support in maintaining the high standards and integrity of Walking Football Scotland competitions.
