Club News
/It’s time for another round-up of news from across the Walking Football Scotland community, with plenty happening both at home and further afield.
From sharing the latest developments within WFS and supporting clubs across the country, to Scottish teams travelling to Portugal and communities coming together to raise funds for a fantastic cause, there has been plenty to celebrate.
Jacky Visits Largs to Talk All Things Walking Football ⚽💙
WFS Trustee Martin Jack (Jacky) was delighted to be invited along to a recent Largs Walking Football Club session in Inverclyde.
Jacky had the opportunity to meet players and speak about all things walking football, including the continued development of the game across Scotland and the work being undertaken by Walking Football Scotland.
He also shared more about our upcoming Healthy Goals initiative on Sunday 4th October, which will bring together football, health and wellbeing as we look to encourage people to become more active and connected.
A big thank you to everyone at Largs WFC for the warm welcome and for giving Jacky the opportunity to spend some time with the group. 👏⚽
Clubs Back in the Algarve ☀️⚽
Ayr United were once again flying the flag at the annual Algarve Walking Football Cup in Vilamoura, with their Over 60s and Over 65s taking part.
The Over 60s narrowly missed out in the final of the Consolation Bowl, while the Over 65s finished fourth overall.
There was also individual recognition for Chris Fleming, who was voted the Over 65s MVP of the tournament by the referees — a fantastic achievement.
Well done to everyone who represented Ayr United and enjoyed another memorable trip to Portugal. 🇵🇹👏
Also enjoying some Portuguese sunshine were Sauchie Juniors, who returned to the Algarve Walking Football Cup for an impressive ninth time.
The annual trip has become a firm fixture in the Sauchie calendar, with the club enjoying plenty of success across a number of different categories over the years.
Another week of football, friendship and plenty of good memories for the Sauchie group, continuing a fantastic relationship with one of the biggest events on the international walking football calendar. 👏☀️⚽
There was further Scottish contingent in Vilamoura as Forfar Athletic travelled to Portugal looking to defend the title they won at last year's Algarve Walking Football Cup.
Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for the club who’ll be lifting the O50’s East of Scotland Premiership title in a few weeks time.
Congratulations to all the players who represented their clubs in Portugal.
Walking Football Raises £740 for Fairfield Food Larder ❤️⚽
Football and fundraising came together at a recent walking football festival organised in support of the Fairfield Food Larder.
Clubs and players came together to enjoy the game while supporting an important local cause, with an excellent £740 raised for the food larder.
Events like this continue to demonstrate the wider impact walking football clubs can have within their communities, using the game to bring people together while supporting those who need it.
A huge well done to everyone who organised, played, donated and helped make the festival such a success. 👏❤️
A Special Day for Parkinson’s Walking Footballers 💙⚽
It was a fantastic day at the club as the Parkinson’s Walking Football group were invited along with their wives and partners to enjoy Saturday’s first-team match.
The day became even more memorable at half-time when the group were invited onto the pitch for a kick-about in front of the supporters.
Their appearance was met with a fantastic standing ovation from the crowd, providing a special moment of recognition for the players and the programme.
It was a brilliant example of the connection between a football club and its wider community, while shining a spotlight on the opportunities walking football provides for people living with Parkinson’s to stay active, connected and involved in the game they love.
A wonderful moment for the players, their families and everyone involved in the programme. 👏💙⚽
Richard Hits the Road Supporting WFS Clubs 🚗⚽
WFS Coach Liaison Officer Richard Sinclair has certainly been clocking up the miles over the past month as he continues to visit and support clubs across Scotland.
Richard has recently spent time with Scone, St James and Dunbar, meeting coaches and players, observing sessions and offering support as part of WFS's commitment to helping clubs and coaches continue to develop.
These visits are a great opportunity for clubs to discuss their coaching, sessions and any areas where WFS can provide additional guidance or support.
If your club would like a visit from Richard, please get in touch with Walking Football Scotland and we'll be delighted to arrange it. 👏⚽
More Than Just the Game 💙
Another fantastic collection of stories showing the many different sides of walking football across Scotland — from success on the international stage and supporting coaches and clubs, to fundraising, friendship and sharing the continued development of our game.
Congratulations and thank you to all the players, coaches, volunteers, clubs and supporters featured in this edition. Your enthusiasm and commitment continue to make walking football a thriving and welcoming community across Scotland. 👏⚽💙
