Walking Football Clubs Celebrate with Tournaments, Festivals and Community Spirit

Walking Football continues to thrive across Scotland, bringing players together not just for the love of the game, but to support great causes and build lasting friendships. Recent events showcased this brilliantly, with clubs marking anniversaries, honouring local heroes, and enjoying festivals of football.

Oriam Walking Football Club – 10th Anniversary Invitational

On 24 June, Oriam Walking Football Club hosted an Invitational Tournament to celebrate their 10th anniversary at Oriam, Scotland’s National Performance Centre.

The event, proudly sponsored by Scott Coppola Electrical Distributors, supported Oriam WF’s chosen charity, Alzheimer Scotland.

Teams representing Hearts, Hibernian, Pollok, Dundee East, Stenhousemuir, Gala Fairydean, Dunbar WFC 2017, and Oriam took part in both Over 50 and Over 65 competitions.

A fantastic day of football ended with Pollok crowned champions in both age groups. Afterwards, players gathered in the Oriam Lounge to enjoy refreshments and social time.

Thanks to the generosity of participating teams—and contributions from Tweedvale and Dunfermline, who couldn’t attend—a brilliant total of £1,200 was raised for Alzheimer Scotland.

Paul Rendall, Chairman of Oriam Walking Football Club, said:

“Today was a great example of the power of Walking Football and the strength of the Walking Football family. We’re very grateful to all of the Clubs for helping us celebrate our anniversary year and raising funds for a charity which does so much valuable work all across Scotland.”

Whitletts Victoria – Walking Football for All

Meanwhile, Whitletts Victoria recently hosted their own walking football event, supported by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

Over 200 people took part, with no scores, trophies or medals—just the pure enjoyment of the game. The emphasis was on participation, fun, and community, highlighting what makes walking football so special.

Arbroath – The 4th George Muir Memorial Walking Football Festival

Over in the east, Arbroath were proud to host the 4th George Muir Walking Football Festival. Following George’s passing at age 83, the festival was renamed the George Muir Memorial Walking Football Festival in honour of his enormous contribution to football in the town.

The event once again drew an excellent turnout, with players travelling from across the region to celebrate the game and pay tribute to George’s legacy.

Keeping Walking Football Strong!

These events show the huge impact Walking Football continues to have—keeping people active, building friendships, and supporting causes that matter. Congratulations to all the clubs and players involved.
