Arthur Duncan became involved in walking football in 2015 when the Healthy Hearts Club at Stirling Sports Village laid the foundations for a new group. From his very first session, Arthur became a passionate advocate for walking football, recognising its value in fostering social connection, wellbeing, and camaraderie among participants.
A talented graphic artist, Arthur made an enormous creative contribution to Walking Football Scotland (WFS). Together with former Chair Gary McLaughlin, he designed the iconic WFS logo, later assigning full copyright to the organisation. Arthurโs creative touch extended far beyond the logo, as he regularly produced leaflets, programmes, and strip graphics that helped promote the sport across Scotland.
While his local work was prolific, it is the WFS logo โ inspired by his beloved Saltire โ that stands as his most enduring legacy, symbolising his lasting impact on walking football in Scotland.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution, Walking Football Scotland established the Arthur Duncan Memorial Award in 2022. The inaugural recipient was Mags Muir of Carnoustie Panmure, followed by Colin Craig of Drumchapel United in 2023 and then Billy Brown of Edinburgh City last year.
We now invite member club and regional representatives to submit nominations for the 2025 Arthur Duncan Memorial Award. Nominations should be no more than 200 words and explain why the nominee deserves this recognition for their exceptional contribution to walking football and their local community. (Please note - only one nomination should be submitted for their nomination, per club)
