WFS O50's Women's Regional Cup - Central Champions!

The O50’s Women’s Regional Cup kicked off at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Wishaw today with the 4 regional teams keen to become inaugural champions.

In this month, the 50th Anniversary of the ‘lifting of the ban’ on women’s football by the Scottish FA, we celebrate the women who played the game they love and congratulate all women who play walking football around the country.

It was the Central Region who came out on top, winning all 3 games to become Champions!

We thank all players, teams and referees for a great afternoon and once again congratulate West Region under management, Claire McCosh and Ritchie Currie-Jenkins for the first O50’s Women’s Regional Cup victory.

Club News - September

There has been plenty going on for our clubs recently as well as friendlies for our Regional teams as they prepare for Regional events next month.

Edinburgh City are inviting all players along to World of Football, Chesser on Thursday 3rd October for a walking football festival as they raise money for charity partners, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

If you wish to attend, get in touch with Billy Brown on 07855 538 146 to confirm for a mixed sides event.

Regional Reps Mike Cranston and Ian Duncan have been out and about visiting their local grassroots clubs and recently it was a trip to Crieff.

And finally, Rangers Charity Foundation recently held a special walking football festival as they also welcome former player, Gordon Durie. Eight teams entered and the overall winners of the day were the FFIT 4 Life team who beat the Walking Football Over 50’s A, side after a tense sudden death penalty shootout.

WFS O70's East Premiership

It was back to league action for the over 70’s today in Edinburgh for the WFS O70’s East Premiership.

It is all change at the top now with Fife Wanderers, 7 points clear and with only 3 games to go, they will only need one more win to become champions!

We thank all players, clubs and referees for a good day of walking football and look forward in welcoming you all back for the final day on Friday 22nd November.

Parkinson's WF - Hibernian Community Foundation

Our Parkinson’s Walking Football partnership with Hibernian Community Foundation and Parkinsons UK kicked off today at World of Football - Corn Exchange, Edinburgh.

12 keen participants took to the field under the watchful eye of our Parkinson’s Educator, Drew Wilson and session delivered by Hibs coaches with the support of some willing volunteers, who were are extremely grateful.

Walking Football for people with Parkinson’s has proved to be a terrific way to manage symptoms as well as support player’s physical, mental and social wellbeing with one participant today saying: “I felt like deaths door this morning and then I came to walking football and I have had the best time!”

The session is on every Wednesday (11-12pm) at World of Football - Corn Exchange (10 New Market Rd, EH14 1RJ) with refreshments served thereafter and anyone with Parkinson’s who wishes to get involved should contact Niamh Westwood at niamhw@hiberniancf.org or 07450718702.

WFS O70's East Premiership

The WFS O70’s East Premiership returns to action this Friday at Oriam National Performance Centre.

It’s a big month for the top of the table with 1st place Stenhousemuir, taking on 3rd place Hearts but Fife Wanderers will also be playing their game in hand which will then give us a clear indication of the table prior to the last month of fixtures in November.

WFS O70's Regional Cup - South East Champions!

Our Regional Cup kicked off today for the Over 70’s where 5 regional teams arrived at Oriam National Performance Centre.

Over 50 players donned their new Uhlsport and RJM Sports kits to see who would be crowned inaugural champions.

As we arrived into the very last match, 15 minutes in, the South West team were about to win the cup with 1 point ahead of all other teams. However, with a couple of minutes to go, the South East Region, got their goal, winning 1-0 and therefore were champions!

We had a terrific afternoon and look forward to the next number of events coming up this weekend.

We finally would like to thank you Regional Rep, Mike Cranston, all players, managers and venue staff for their support today and once again congratulate the South East Region under Management of Gerry Butler and Paul Randall in becoming O70’s Regional Cup Champions.

WFS Announce New Partnership with RJM Sports & Uhlsport

We are delighted to officially announce a new partnership with RJM Sports and manufacturer, Uhlsport.

Uhlsport is a German sporting goods manufacturer and we are delighted to team up with them and RJM Sports who’ve very kindly sponsored our new WFS Regional team strips.

The new strips will have their first outing this coming Monday at our O70’s Regional Cup and we will soon be relaunching our online shop with all new WFS branded Uhlsport gear, sharing more details soon.

WFS President Kenny McLean said: “As we entered a new era for Walking Football Scotland with the formation of regional teams, it was important that our teams were suitably equipped. WFS O70's Regional Cup Squad Announcement

Next Monday, Walking Football Scotland venture into new territory with the commencement and formation of Regional Squads with the Over 70’s taking part in the inaugural Regional Cup.

Today, we are delighted to announce the first squads and congratulate all players who have been selected.

We thank those volunteer Regional Managers and Assistants for their hard work and wish you and your players all the very best for the first event this coming Monday at Oriam National Performance Centre.

WFS O60's East Premiership & Championship - Hearts & Oriam Champions!!!

The WFS O60’s East Premiership and Championship concluded today on Thursday 5th September at Oriam National Performance Centre.

In the Premiership, Hearts 56’ only needed 1 win and secured the title in the opening match before concluding the day 10 points clear of second place Alloa Athletic and 11 points clear of Dundee East CSC who both secure Champions League spots.

In the Championship, Oriam - Whites secured the title by 1 point where Dunfermline Dynamos also pipped Stenhousemuir to promotion by 1 point too going down to the very last match of the season.

Due to additional teams entering the O60’s East league next year, there was no relegation from the Premiership and therefore, next year we will have 2 leagues of 9 teams each.

It has been an exciting day in the capital and we were delighted to welcome former Hearts Captain and Scotland Internationalist, Christophe Berra of giving of his time and support to present the winning trophies and medals.

We congratulate Hearts and Oriam for their league success as well as all teams, regional reps, venue staff and referees for all their support in making it an excellent O60’s walking football season in Edinburgh.

WFS O60's West Premiership & Championship

The WFS O60’s West Premiership and Championship resumed today at Toryglen Regional Football Centre.

In the Premiership, North Lanarkshire Council continue unbeaten but may be kicking themselves with 2 draws today, still leaving it only 1 point ahead going into the final month of the season and still to play both Pollok Utd and Glasgow Life.

In the Championship, it is all change at the top, with Gretna 2008 now top on goal difference closely followed by Morton FC and Drumchapel Utd - JN Electrics.

With no leagues concluded, we are in for an exciting final day and we look forward in welcoming all clubs back on Wednesday 27th November to see who will be crowned champions.
